Targeting something to look at: "Mark" or "Look"
This is a target behavior that does not involve touching the object. This can be a valuable concept to teach the dog for future skills for example, looking forward on a contact obstacle or looking at an obstacle you will release them to from a lateral lead out.
Teach much like the “look” or nose touch behavior, but reward the dog for staring at an object. Use placement of reward to reinforce the look, but do not encourage the dog to move toward the object. Work up to an object on the ground and an object partially obscured (which often triggers the dog to paw at it in order to expose it)
